How The Placement Journal researches and compares podcast placement

The Placement Journal forms its recommendations from Wellness Marketing Reports’ own research, other companies’ published pages, and named industry statistics, each quoted as published.

The Placement Journal is written by Wellness Marketing Reports, so its guidance reflects that business’s approach and is not independent. To keep it useful, we judge every option on the same stated criteria, quote numbers exactly with their sources, and say plainly when a fact was not published rather than filling the gap.

How does The Placement Journal decide what to recommend?

We start from what FemTech and sexual health founders need: reaching buyers that ad platforms make hard to reach, and knowing whether the work paid back. Recommendations favor approaches that fit restricted health categories and that can be measured against revenue.

Our sources

  • Wellness Marketing Reports’ 2025 white paper, Turning Stigma into Strategy, based on in depth interviews with 63 industry leaders in sexual wellness and women’s health.
  • Case study figures reported by Wellness Marketing Reports about its own clients, labeled as such wherever they appear.
  • Published pages from other companies, such as Fame Connect and Lemonpie, quoted as written.
  • Industry statistics from named publishers, including iHeartMedia and Libsyn, listed on our podcast statistics page.

Criteria for comparisons

Every option in a comparison is judged on the same four facts, in this order of weight:

  1. Stated category focus on FemTech, SexTech, sexual health or women’s health.
  2. Published price.
  3. Stated measurement, especially whether results are tied to revenue.
  4. Stated exit terms, such as notice periods.

When a company has not published a fact, the comparison says so. We do not test or audit services, and we do not use ratings or reviews unless real public figures are available.

Criteria for choosing shows

  • Audience fit with the buyer, ahead of download counts alone.
  • Whether the host already covers bodies, hormones, sex or clinical topics.
  • Substance of recent episodes, judged by listening.
  • Whether a guest can give listeners one clear next step that can be tracked.

Common questions

How do you choose which podcasts to pitch?

Choose shows by audience fit and substance, not download counts alone. The goal is to reach listeners already searching for solutions like yours, such as patients, clinicians, partners or investors. For FemTech and sexual health, that also means hosts who are comfortable discussing bodies, hormones and sex in plain, accurate language. Our methodology page lists the criteria.

How do you measure podcast placement results?

Measure replies, interviews booked, interviews published and revenue influenced. Wellness Marketing Reports ties channels to revenue; for one sexual health device client it attributed revenue using a post purchase survey plus Shopify data. Ask buyers where they heard about you, use show-specific links or codes, and compare sales before and after an episode goes live.

How do I spot a podcast booking agency that is a poor fit?

Watch for agencies that promise specific shows or download numbers, cannot show how they report results, or pitch every client to the same generic list. Ask what they count as a result, how they track revenue, what the contract term is, and whether they have worked in your category. Clear answers matter more than polish.

Is podcast placement worth the money?

It is worth it when interviews reach your buyers and you can trace sales back to them. Wellness Marketing Reports reports channel performance against revenue, using a post purchase survey plus Shopify data for one sexual health device client. Libsyn data shows premium episodes earn 65% of their month-one audience within the first 7 days, so measure early and again later.

Why use a podcast agency that specializes in health and wellness?

A specialist knows which hosts welcome frank talk about bodies, hormones and sex, and how to pitch without tripping medical-claim concerns. Wellness Marketing Reports bases its approach on interviews with 63 entrepreneurs in sexual wellness and women’s health. A generalist agency may still work well for brands outside restricted health categories.
